Govt officials to discuss economic plan with unions

Government officials are due to meet the leaders of the trade union movement today as part of their plans to come up with a strategy to address the huge downturn in the Irish economy.

The Taoiseach has insisted that the best way to deal with the situation is via the social partnership process.
