Exchequer figures expected to show €8bn tax shortfall

The final Exchequer figures for 2008 are expected to show that the shortfall in tax revenue during the year was significantly worse than the Government predicted just three months ago.

The figures, due to be published later today, are expected to put the total shortfall for the year at around €8bn.
