Irish farmers have been voicing their concern over plans for an EU-wide ban of the use of key pesticides, which they say could double the price of vegetables.

The scheme would involve changing the way pesticides are assessed for use on crops, as part of a goal to halve the use of toxic products in farming by 2013.
