Two men appeared in court on this morning charged in connection with an explosives find near Kells on Wednesday.

Emmett Reilly (aged 18), with an address at Drumbee, Kilnaleck, Co. Cavan was charged at Dublin District Court with possession of two-and-half kilos of Semtex contrary to the Explosive Substances Act.

Garda John Daly of Navan station told Judge John Coughlan that Mr Reilly made no reply when charged. He said he was not objecting to bail subject to a €5,000 independent surety being lodged.

Judge Coughlan remanded Mr Reilly in custody with consent to bail, which was taken up after the surety was lodged, to appear again at Cloverhill District Court on Tuesday, December 23 next.

He was ordered to sign on three days at week at his local Garda station.

Garda Daly said that he had the defendant's passport and Judge Coughlan made it a condition of bail that he did not apply for a new one.

John Fallon (aged 32) with an address at Carrickaboy, Co. Cavan, was charged with possessing 500 rounds of ammunition contrary to the Firearms Act, at his home address, on December 18.

He was remanded in custody with consent to bail to appear on the same date. Mr Fallon's mother was approved as a bailperson and he was also ordered to surrender his passport.
