Tests negative on white powder at Dublin Garda station
Tests carried out on a suspicious envelope handed in to gardaí at Mountjoy Garda Station in Dublin earlier today have proven negative, a Defence Forces statement said.
"At 3.55 pm today, an army bomb disposal team examined a suspicious envelope containing a powder substance," the statement said.
"The envelope was handed in by a member of the public to the Garda station. Tests for explosive, biological and other toxins proved negative and the powder did not pose any immediate threat."
The remains of this envelope and the powder have been handed over to gardaí on the scene for further investigation into the incident.
The alarm had earlier caused traffic to back up around the area as gardaí sealed off streets as a precaution.
