Gardaí seize gun and ammo in murder probe
A handgun and ammunition were seized tonight by detectives investigating the murder of father-of-one Aidan O’Kane.
Gardaí said several searches were carried out on houses in the East Wall area of Dublin’s north inner city, near where the 50-year-old was gunned down on Sunday.
He was shot dead after chasing a gang of youths from his home.
A 16-year-old boy charged with the murder and who cannot be named because of his age remained in custody tonight in Dublin.
He is due before the Children’s Court again next Wednesday.
Gardaí said the firearm will undergo forensic and ballistic tests.
A quantity of drugs was also recovered during the searches.
Mr O'Kane, an electrician well known in the close-knit East Wall community, was chasing a group of youngsters who had thrown eggs at his home when he was shot in the stomach.
He died later in hospital.
