Gilmore: Banks' boards must not become 'cosy cartel'

The leader of the Labour Party, Eamon Gilmore, has called on those appointed by the Minister for Finance to the Boards of Banks not to become members of a cosy cartel.

A number of high-profile people with experience in politics and finance will join the boards on behalf of the taxpayer as part of the Government's bank guarantee scheme.

They include former ministers Alan Dukes, Ray McSharry, Dick Spring and Joe Walsh.

Mr Gilmore said it is crucial these appointees keep manners on the banks to ensure the taxpayer gets a good deal.
