PSNI investigate hatchet attack

Police in the North are investigating an incident in which a man was attacked with a hatchet.

The man was assaulted in the John Street area of Downpatrick in County Down shortly after midnight.

He is being treated in hospital today for ear injuries.

A 34-year-old woman who tried to intervene is also being treated for injuries to her hand, while a 24-year-old man was arrested and is helping the police with their enquiries.
