FÁS board to report to Tánaiste
The board of FÁS is due to report to Tanaiste Mary Coughlan later today.
The meeting follows the meeting of the Public Accounts Committee yesterday and the shock resignation of FÁS director general Rody Molloy on Tuesday in the fallout over the expenses controversy.
The scandal surrounding expenses at the State training agency reached a high point earlier this week with Mr Molloy's resignation after weeks of allegations of excessive spending by FÁS executives.
Yesterday, one of the agency's senior board members told the Public Accounts Committee that the approval of some expenses had been fundamentally wrong, and that a root-and-branch investigation was needed.
The FÁS board held an emergency meeting late on Wednesday, after which it said it was gravely concerned about the matters and indicated that it would make a more detailed statement after the committee's hearing.
The board is due to report to Tánaiste Mary Coughlan after a meeting today, and she will then bring a report before the Cabinet on Tuesday.
