Whistle-blower slams delay in addressing Shine allegations

A nurse who was one of the whistler-blowers in the case of Dr Michael Shine at the Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda said the delay in dealing with allegations against him compounded the pain for his victims.

A nurse who was one of the whistler-blowers in the case of Dr Michael Shine at the Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda said the delay in dealing with allegations against him compounded the pain for his victims.

The former consultant surgeon was yesterday struck off the medical register for professional misconduct.

It followed an inquiry into complaints that he indecently or sexually assaulted male patients between 1964 and 1994.

A nurse who spoke out against Dr Shine says the fact that it took more than 14 years to complete the case merely added to the distress faced by his victims.
