Sophie’s mum to tell of heartache

The mother of Sophie Toscan du Plantier will speak about the pain of her daughter’s death on RTÉ tonight.

Marguerite Bouniol spoke to the makers of the ‘Scannal’ documentary ahead of a vigil which she and family members will hold near the Goleen home of the murdered Frenchwoman on the 12th anniversary of her death on December 22.

In the documentary, Ms Bouniol said: “We miss her more and more each day. They say time heals, but I’m not sure it gets easier. Maybe the initial grief and the tears and the crying lessen, but it’s her absence that’s unbearable.”

The documentary is being aired as a lawyer for Sophie’s family confirmed an investigation is underway in France into allegations of witness intimidation in the Irish investigation. The complaint was lodged by Sophie’s parents.

Lawyer Alain Spilliaert said the complaint was lodged on July 29 and that Judge Patrick Gachon had been appointed to oversee the investigation.

Judge Gachon is also heading up a French investigation into the murder. Sophie’s body was exhumed as part of that investigation but no fresh evidence was found.

‘Scannal’ will be shown tonight at 7.30pm on RTÉ 1.
