€42m spent so far on Haulbowline site
The Government has confirmed that €42m has already been spent on the clean-up operation at the site of the former Irish Steel plant in Haulbowline.
The figure was revealed by Environment Minister John Gormley in response to a parliamentary question from East Cork TD David Staunton.
A further €1.2m will also be spent managing the site before January.
Minister Gormley says he does not know how much more will need to be spent on the clean-up as a decision hasn't been made on the site's future.
