Many Irish women are unaware of the risk posed by heart disease, according to a survey by the Women's Health Council.

Many Irish women are unaware of the risk posed by heart disease, according to a survey by the Women's Health Council.

One third of women involved in the research thought heart disease mainly affected men.

However, the Women's Health Council says women just as affected by the disease, but generally develop the condition later in life.

The council says twice as many women die from heart disease than do from all cancers combined.
