A conference in Dublin has heard that investment in education will help secure Ireland's economic future.

The Association of Secondary Teachers has been meeting amid huge concern among teaching unions and parents about cutbacks in education.

The Director of the National Economic and Social Council was the keynote speaker at the conference.

Dr Rory O'Donnell said Ireland must develop a system to fully support people in participating effectively in the emerging economy.
