Murder investigation launched in Kerry

A murder investigation has been launched into the death of a man whose body was discovered near the village of Ballyduff in north Kerry on Thursday night.

He has been identified as 25-year-old John McManus who has been missing from his home in Verdon Place, Wellington Road, Cork city for more than a week.

His body was discovered in a field on the main road to Ballyduff at around 5.30pm on Thursday.

The results of the post mortem which was carried out at Cork University Hospital are not being released for operational reasons.

Officers from Tralee are working with detectives from Cork on the case.
