SIPTU's members at Aer Lingus have backed a call for strike action if the company attempts to enforce its highly controversial cost-cutting plan.

SIPTU's members at Aer Lingus have backed a call for strike action if the company attempts to enforce its highly controversial cost-cutting plan.

Management is seeking to introduce almost 1,500 job cuts through out-sourcing, voluntary redundancy or early retirement.

Industrial action up to and including a full-scale strike is threatened if management proceeds without agreement.

Union spokesman Gerry McCormack said the company has an obligation to engage with the union to find alternatives to outsourcing.
