Suspended sentence for man who bit part of security guard's ear off
A man who bit part of a security guard’s ear off after he was asked to leave a shop following a dispute with the store supervisor has been given a three and a half year suspended sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Stephen Ahearn (aged 27), of Stapolin Lawns, Baldoyle, picked up a knife from the deli counter in Centra on Wellington Quay, Dublin and threatened Kabir Mohammed with it. He then swung the weapon at him before he bit his ear.
He pleaded guilty to assault causing harm to Mr Mohammed and production of a knife during the course of a dispute on November 11, 2005.
Judge Frank O’Donnell heard that Mr Mohammed was taken to the Mater Hospital where it was found that a bit of his ear was missing. He has since returned home to Pakistan.
Judge Frank O’Donnell accepted that Ahearn had €5,000 in court to offer Mr Mohammed as compensation before he suspended the entire sentence on condition that he keep the peace and be of good behaviour for four years.
