Campaigners to tackle world hunger
The writing was on the wall for world hunger today as former United Nations chief Kofi Annan was announced as the key speaker at a major global conference on the crisis.
Mr Annan is just one of a number of distinguished experts who will address the International Conference on World Hunger in Dublin next month.
Renowned street artist Maser painted stark hunger statistics across a wall in Temple Bar at the launch to illustrate that a child dies from hunger every five seconds.
Campaigners and experts from across the globe will attend the conference organised by humanitarian organisation Concern Worldwide on October 16 at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham.
It will examine issues such as how to tackle hunger as food prices soar and African leadership in fighting world hunger.
Other speakers will include UN member and former president Mary Robinson and Overseas Development Minister Peter Power.
