Man injured in Garda stand-off
A man injured himself tonight following a stand-off with gardaí that lasted more than five hours.
Officers were called to the Swords Business Park in north Dublin at around 3.30pm after the man had threatened to harm himself.
A number of gardaí became involved in the incident including a negotiating team and members of the armed Emergency Response Unit (ERU).
The incident ended at around 9pm after officers overpowered the man, although he managed to inflict injury on himself while being restrained.
Gardaí said his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
A spokesman said: “A Garda critical incident management was put in place and was attended by various sections of An Garda Siochana including a negotiating team and members of the Emergency Response Unit.
“The man has been removed to hospital where he is being treated for his injuries which are not thought to be life threatening.
“No other person was injured.”
The Garda Ombudsman has been contacted.
