150 jobs hanging in the balance at Cork's Swissco plant
More than 150 jobs are hanging in the balance at the Swissco plant in the Little Island area of Cork.
Staff at the food-processing facility say they were told yesterday that they face redundancy.
The company has issued a statement saying it has not been profitable for some time and closing the plant seems the only viable option.
However, it says there may be the possibility of relocation for some of the staff.
Swissco has been operating in Little Island since 1974 and employs 154 full-time and part-time workers in the area.
It says it will consult employees and examine any possible alternatives.
