Parents to seek inquiry into latest cancer misdiagnosis

The family at the centre of the latest cancer misdiagnosis controversy is expected to call for an independent inquiry into the case later today.

Edel Kelly, a 26-year-old mother of two, died in June after she was falsely given the all-clear for breast cancer at Ennis General Hospital in July 2006.

She was correctly diagnosed last October after falling ill and being examined by doctors at Limerick Regional Hospital.

Ms Kelly began to take legal action against the HSE for the original misdiagnosis, but she died before her battle was complete.

Her parents, Una and John, are expected to call for an independent inquiry at a press conference later today.
