The difficulties facing the Irish economy will be discussed at a major conference in Dublin today.

The event, organised by the Institute of Public Administration, will be opened by the Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan this morning.

It is to mark the 50th anniversary of an historic paper by economist TK Whitaker, which was pivotal in the development of the Irish economy.
