Gunman shot and disarmed in Dublin

A gunman was disarmed and shot today after he opened fire on another man.

Gardaí said the attacker approached a house in Blanchardstown in the outskirts of west Dublin at 6.10am.

Armed with a shotgun, he opened fire on a man at the home on Corduff Place hitting him in the stomach.

But it is understood the injured man managed to stop his attacker, disarm him and in the process the gunman was also shot.

One of the men was aged in his mid-thirties.

Gardaí said investigations were continuing into the exact circumstances around the double shooting.

Neither of the men, who were taken to James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown, are thought to have suffered life-threatening injuries.
