Unemployment predicted to rise to 7%

The Irish National Organisation for the Unemployed (INOU) is today predicting that unemployment will exceed the 7% mark.

It has launched a new information booklet, 'Working for Work', for people who find themselves without a job.

The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office reveal that the number of people signing onto the live register has reached 6.1%.

Co-ordinator for the INOU John Stewart has said that figure is likely to rise further.

"It is pretty clear that there are large numbers of people losing their jobs," he said.

"All of the statistics that have been produced recently would indicate clearly that there are problems in the economy and unfortunately we would expect unemployment to rise."
