National wage deal talks to begin next week

Last-ditch talks to hammer out a new national wage deal will begin on Monday, it emerged today.

Employers’ groups and unions met today for two hours of separate discussions with Taoiseach Brian Cowen as the worsening economic climate made any substantial pay hikes unlikely.
