A Galway woman, who was jailed this summer for stabbing her neighbour to death in a drunken row over a dog, has given birth to a baby girl.

A Galway woman, who was jailed this summer for stabbing her neighbour to death in a drunken row over a dog, has given birth to a baby girl.

26-year-old Una Black from Mervue killed 42-year-old John Malone at Walter Macken flats on the December 3, 2006.

They had known each other for three years and drank and socialised together.

She pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was imprisoned in July for nine years.

She gave birth in the Rotunda last night. The baby can stay with her in prison for a year, after which time it is expected a family member will care for her.
