Robinson recieves international award

Former President Mary Robinson has been honoured with an international award in Switzerland.

Mrs Robinson was given the 2008 Prix Des Generations award at a ceremony in St Gallen's University, for her international work on human rights.

More than 500 delegates attended the event, including Ireland's Ambassador to Switzerland, James Sharkey.

Speaking on acceptance of the award, the former President has said she is just one member of a team of people who all deserve recognition.

"I couldn’t do what I do what I do without their support so I feel slightly uncomfortable that it’s Mary Robinson who gets the bright lights and the awards.

"But also, the recognition helps our work and the support helps our work," she added.
