Unapproved B&Bs operating without safety standards

Around 5,000 unapproved B&Bs are operating in Ireland without any health and safety standards, according to a report out today.

The report by the Town and Country Homes Association calls for the compulsory licensing of the sector to bring it in line with hotels and self-catering accommodation.

The association represents about 60% of registered B&Bs in Ireland.

It says a licensing system would increase consumer confidence, reward effort and eliminate sub-standard operators.
