Planning approval refused for controversial Cashel hotel

An Bord Pleanála has refused planning permission for a controversial hotel in Cashel, Co Tipperary.

The planning board cited the location, type of development and archaeological reasons for refusing the 83-bedroom, five-storey development.

A local residents' group had mounted a campaign to oppose the development, claiming Cashel Town Council pledged to use the land as a town park when it was bought from the Presentation Sisters in 2001.
