Gardaí in Dublin are investigating the discovery of a suspicious device in west Dublin last night.

Gardaí in Dublin are investigating the discovery of a suspicious device in west Dublin last night.

The device was found at around 9.30pm in Ballyowen Park, on the Balgaddy Road in Clondalkin.

Bomb disposal experts were called to the scene and carried out a controlled explosion shortly after 11pm.

It is unclear at this stage of the device was a viable bomb or a hoax.

A large number of pipe-bombs and hoax devices have been found in Dublin since the start of this year.

Organised criminals are believed to be using the devices in attempts to intimidate their rivals.
