The Union of Students in Ireland has said that the government's controversial plans to re-introduce third level fees will result in less people going to college.

It is reported that the government is considering bringing back fees to ensure the standard of third level education is maintained.

The re-introduction of fees was ruled out in last year's Programme for Government.

However, Education Minister Batt O'Keeffe said this commitment was based on predictions that our economic growth would stand at 4.5%.
