Record numbers sign on as credit crunch hits labour market

Social welfare offices in the counties of Monaghan and Wicklow recorded the largest percentage of new people signing on the dole last month, figures out today showed.

The Central Statistics Office this week revealed almost 17,500 extra people joined the dole queue in July as the as the global credit crunch hit the labour market.
