Dublin's 'City of Science' bid unveiled

Dublin’s bid for the 2012 European City of Science will be unveiled by Lord Mayor Eibhlin Byrne and Technology Minister Dr Jimmy Devins today.

The campaign to win the coveted title was announced by former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern late last year.

The European City of Science is a relatively new EU supported programme that chooses a city every other year.

Stockholm was the first city in 2004, followed by Munich in 2006 and Barcelona this year.

Turin beat competition from Paris, Copenhagen and Wroclaw for 2010.

Today’s event will take place in the Mansion House.
