Crash brings weekend road death toll to four

A fourth person has been killed on the roads this weekend after a 23-year-old man died in a crash in Cork at around midnight.

The Lithuanian man is the latest victim of the carnage on Irish roads.

The young man's car went out of control and collided with a ditch before hitting a tree at Grange, just outside Cork city.

He was brought to Cork University Hospital but died earlier today. He is the fourth person to die in road accidents since Friday.

Last night, a woman in her 50s was killed in a two-car crash in Galway. It happened at around 9.45pm at Minna in Inverin.

A man and a woman travelling in the other car were injured, and are both in a comfortable condition at University College Hospital in Galway.

It happened just hours after a couple in their 20s died in a crash in Co Offaly.

A third person - also a man in his early 20s - was seriously injured, but gardaí say his condition is improving.
