Man attacked with hammer in Clonmel

A man was recovering in hospital tonight after a hammer attack in Co Tipperary.

It is understood up to three people known to the victim may have been involved in the assault on O’Connell Street in Clonmel.

The victim was rushed to South Tipperary General Hospital, where his injuries are said to be serious but non life-threatening.

Investigating officers are appealing for witnesses who saw the dispute, which happened at 4pm, to come forward.

A garda spokesman said no arrests have been made.
