Prison officers to meet Mountjoy management
Prison officers are due to meet management at Mountjoy Prison this afternoon to discuss the confrontation between inmates and staff over the weekend.
The Irish Prison Officers' Association says it wants to raise a number of concerns with management following Saturday's disturbance, in which 70 inmates barricaded themselves into a recreation area.
Five staff members and two inmates were injured when prison officers in riot gear stormed the area to end the stand-off.
The IPOA has already blamed the incident on overcrowding, but new security measures aimed at preventing the smuggling of drugs are also believed to have been a factor in the disturbance.
