20-year-old Irishman shot dead by US police

A 20-year-old Irishman has been shot dead by police in the US state of Oregon.

Andrew Hanlon, from Dundrum in Dublin, was shot dead on Monday night by officers investigating reports of a burglary in the town of Silverton.

He had been living in the US since last July.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident and the Department of Foreign Affairs says the Irish consulate in San Francisco is providing consular assistance to his family.
