Police in the North have released a 45-year-old man arrested earlier this week in connection with the murder of six men at a pub in Co Down 14 years ago.

The man was detained in the English town of Maidstone on Monday in connection with the infamous UVF gun attack on The Heights Bar in Loughinisland.

He was transferred to Antrim for questioning, but has now been released without charge.

Six men died and five others were seriously injured when the UVF opened fire inside the pub as patrons were watching Ireland playing Italy in the 1994 World Cup.
