The Court of Criminal Appeal has quashed the conviction and seven-year prison sentence of an apprentice carpenter for the rape of a female student in Waterford City.

The Court of Criminal Appeal has quashed the conviction and seven-year prison sentence of an apprentice carpenter for the rape of a female student in Waterford City.

In setting aside the conviction today the three judge court of Mr Justice Nicholas Kearns presiding, sitting with Mr Justice Paul Gilligan and Mr Justice Kevin Feeney ordered that a retrial take place.
