Huge numbers of provisional-licence holders could reportedly face being put off the roads next week after ignoring a government deadline for passing their driving test.

Last year, Transport Minister Noel Dempsey announced that Garda would be enforcing the law whereby a learner driver must be accompanied at all times by a full-qualified motorist.
