Dublin City Council not following through with CPO of Dublin park

Dublin City Council will not be going ahead with plans to put a compulsory purchase order on a park in Rathmines.

An Bord Pleanála issued a CPO for Dartmouth Square park, owned by Westmeath businessman, Noel O'Gara, to protect it from a proposed development on the land.

However, the plan has now been scrapped as it could force the council to pay out a huge settlement for the site.

Today, the council released a statement saying that attempts to reach an agreement in their negotiations with Mr O'Gara had failed, but that they were still looking for a solution to keep the park open to the public.
