Council approves scheme to promote electric cars
Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council has become the first local authority in Ireland to approve a new scheme to encourage the use of environmentally friendly electric cars.
The council has voted in favour of a plan to install special chargers for electric vehicles in public areas, offer free parking to the drivers of these cars and allow them to use bus lanes at peak times.
Suppliers of electric cars have been calling on all councils throughout Ireland to adopt such measures as part of campaigns to reduce carbon emissions.
