An Irish aid worker who drowned in Ghana just over a week ago is due to be laid to rest in Co Galway today.

An Irish aid worker who drowned in Ghana just over a week ago is due to be laid to rest in Co Galway today.

24-year-old Natalie Higgins will be remembered at a funeral mass in her hometown of Abbeyknockmoy at 1pm.

She will then be buried at the local cemetery.

Ms Higgins drowned after being swept away by a freak wave while walking on a beach.

She had only arrived in Ghana around 10 days earlier as part of a three-month aid trip
