A lawyer who stole €1.6m from up to 100 clients faces being struck off the roll of solicitors.

A lawyer who stole €1.6m from up to 100 clients faces being struck off the roll of solicitors.

The Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal today called for Dublin solicitor Niall Colfer to be struck off after finding him guilty of professional misconduct.

The 50-year-old did not contest the case brought against him by the Law Society, lawyers' watchdog body.

The disciplinary tribunal also recommended that he be ordered to pay €800,000 to the Law Society compensation fund.
