Westmeath man pleads guilty to carpark rape

A Westmeath man is to be sentenced in July for raping a woman in a pub carpark last year.

Marcus McGrath (aged 25) of Christianstown, Collinstown, Mullingar pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to rape and oral rape of the woman on November 9, 2007.

Mr Justice Paul Carney directed that McHugh's name be added to the register of sex offenders and that a victim impact statement be prepared for the sentence hearing.

He remanded him on continuing bail on the grounds that the Director of Public Prosecutions consented.

Mr Justice Carney noted that the court had been told by prosecuting counsel, Mr Desmond Dockery BL and by defence counsel, Mr Patrick Gageby SC, that gardai had no objection to a remand on bail.
