Man due in Belfast court after kidnapping

A 39-year-old-man is due in court in Belfast later this morning, charged in connection with the kidnap of a mother and child in Co Down.

The woman and her four-year-old were taken hostage from their Killough home on Wednesday.

They were held for 12 hours while the woman's partner, who works for a financial institution, was told to get cash.

Police were alerted when the woman managed to free herself.

The 39-year-old is expected to be charged with two counts of kidnapping and false imprisonment.

A woman arrested as part of the investigation has been released.
