Elderly woman becomes fifth weekend road death

A woman in her late 70s has died in a road crash in Galway this afternoon.

The crash between a car and a camper van happened at Rusheen on the Bearna road at about 3.45pm.

The woman was a front-seat passenger in the car.

She was rushed to University College Hospital in Galway but died there a short time later.

The male drivers of the camper van and the car were also taken to hospital, where they are being treated for their injuries.

Gardaí at Salthill are investigating the incident.
