The Government is to be asked to approve the introduction of new post codes here in the near future.

The measure is aimed at making sure that mail gets to its intended destination faster.

It is estimated that almost half the addresses here are not unique and post codes are seen as a way of combating this.

The Department of Communications says consumers, businesses and public service would all benefit from a postcode system.
