The Mayor of South Dublin has died after a short illness.

Green Party Councillor Billy Gogarty had been unanimously elected to the post in June of last year.

Councillor Gogarty was co-opted onto South Dublin County Council in 2006 following the sudden death of Councillor Fintan McCarthy in China.

The removal will take place from Cllr Gogarty's home to St Mary's Church, Lucan at 7pm tomorrow. He is survived by his wife Mary, his Son Paul, his daughter-in-law Heidi and grand-daughter Hazel.
