Management 'warned years ago' about Drogheda mistakes

The Government is facing further opposition attack over the health services this week following revelations that a senior consultant warned about the state of radiology services in Drogheda seven years ago.

The HSE is currently reviewing thousands of scans carried out at Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda and Our Lady's in Navan between 2006 and 2007 due to concerns about the work of a stand-in radiologist.

It has since come to light that a consultant wrote to management at Lourdes Hospital warning that mistakes would be made due to a lack of full-time radiologists.

Fine Gael TD Fergus O'Dowd says the situation in the north-east has not changed since these concerns were raised and patients are still being needlessly put at risk of misdiagnosis.
